Suzuki has finally launched the V-Strom 160, an entry-level adventure motorcycle that has been eagerly anticipated since its patent images leaked online years ago. This bike is designed to offer a blend of adventure and practicality, making it perfect for both city commuting and weekend escapades.
Design and Styling
The V-Strom 160 takes styling cues from the larger V-Strom 1050, featuring a vertical LED headlamp with a big beak and a tall adjustable windscreen. The muscular fuel tank seamlessly integrates into the wide single-piece seat, giving it a rugged yet sleek appearance. The bike rides on black-colored multi-spoke alloy wheels as standard, and the H-shaped LED tail-lamp cluster adds a modern touch.
Performance and Engine
Under the hood, the V-Strom 160 is powered by a 162cc single-cylinder engine sourced from the China-spec Haojue DR160S. This engine delivers 15 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, providing ample power for both city rides and highway cruises. The bike features a 5-speed gearbox, ensuring smooth and efficient gear shifts.
Suspension and Brakes
The V-Strom 160 is equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock unit at the rear, both sourced from KYB. The suspension setup is designed to handle a variety of terrains, offering a comfortable ride. For stopping power, the bike features a disc brake at the rear, mounted on the wheel-spoke in a similar pattern to the Honda CB 300R. It also comes with single-channel ABS as a standard feature, ensuring safety on the road.
Features and Technology
The V-Strom 160 boasts a fully digital instrument console and a USB charging port, adding to its convenience. The bike also features 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 100/80 front and 130/70 tubeless tyres, providing good grip and stability. While it may not be a hardcore adventure bike, its knobby tyres offer some soft-roading capabilities.
Market Availability
Although the V-Strom 160 has been launched in Colombia, there are no confirmed plans for its launch in India. Suzuki already offers the Gixxer 155 in the Indian market, and it's unclear whether the V-Strom 160 will be introduced here. However, there are reports that Suzuki might produce an all-new 250cc adventure motorcycle using the V-Strom 160 frame and equip it with the Gixxer 250’s engine.
